This resource is hosted by the Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory, but was compiled and authored by Padraig O’Malley. It is the product of almost two decades of research and includes analyses, chronologies, historical documents, and interviews from the apartheid and post-apartheid eras.

Age

Over 10-million of the almost 32-million people living in South Africa outside the TBVC falls in the age group 5-19 years and over 8-million are in the 20-34 year old group.

According to the 1991 population census 46.9% of the population outside the TBVC was under the age of 21. A more detailed age breakdown is as follows:
