This resource is hosted by the Nelson Mandela Foundation, but was compiled and authored by Padraig O’Malley. It is the product of almost two decades of research and includes analyses, chronologies, historical documents, and interviews from the apartheid and post-apartheid eras.

Moleketi, Jabu

Moleketi was born in Pimville, Soweto. He became politically aware at school and joined SASM (The South African Students' Movement) while at Musi High School in Pimville, from where he matriculated in 1975.

He was recruited into the ANC during 1976 and in December 1976 left South Africa and went for military training in Mozambique. He then returned to SA in 1977 as an MK cadre.  He left the country again in 1980 and went for further training in the Soviet Union. Subsequent to that he operated from Lesotho and Zimbabwe and was head of the political/military structures in Zimbabwe, from where he was recruited into Operation Vula.

He returned to South Africa officially in 1991 and became a key ANC organiser in the run-up to the 1994 elections. He became MEC for Finance in Gauteng in 1994.  He is currently Deputy Minister of Finance in the national government.

He is married to Geraldine Fraser-Moleketi, Minister for Public Service & Administration.
