This resource is hosted by the Nelson Mandela Foundation, but was compiled and authored by Padraig O’Malley. It is the product of almost two decades of research and includes analyses, chronologies, historical documents, and interviews from the apartheid and post-apartheid eras.

1979

April 6 : Solomon Mahlangu hanged in Pretoria despite an international campaign for clemency. The Solomon Mahlangu Freedom College, (SOMAFCO) an ANC school in Tanzania is named after him. (The records of the school form part of the official archives of the ANC. When the school closed in 1992, these were transported directly to the University of Fort Hare.)

May 1 : Rhodesia becomes Zimbabwe-Rhodesia as white minority rule ends and caretaker government installed under Muzorewa
