Ngcuka, Bulelani

1954 -

Activist, lawyer, National Prosecutor and former Head of the Scorpions, a special police unit. Bulelani Ngcuka was born on 2 May 1954 in Middledrift, Eastern Cape. He graduated from Fort Hare University in 1977 with a B Proc degree and in 1980 he was admitted to the legal profession as an attorney. His active political life began when he joined the UDF. He was arrested, charged with high treason, and served three years in prison.In 2003 the Hefer Commission was appointed to enquire into allegations that he had been spying for the apartheid regime in the 1980s. However, the commission found that the allegations were groundless.
