Omar, Dullah

1934 - 2004

Omar obtained his law degree at the University of Cape Town and in 1982 was admitted as an advocate. He was the Chairperson of the UDF from 1987 to 1988, and it's vice-president from 1988 to 1991. He was elected Chairperson of the Western Cape ANC in 1996 and was a member of the ANC negotiating team and the constitutional committee of the ANC in the years 1991 to 1994. From 1994 to 1999 he was Minister of Justice and from 1990 until his death in 2004 he was Minister of Transport.
