1806. Cape Articles of Capitulation

Mentioned by Dugard (1978: 8), who says that the CAPE ARTICLES OF CAPITULATION "allowed the inhabitants to retain 'all their rights and privileges which they have enjoyed hitherto' ... Roman-Dutch law was further protected from extinction by the English common-law rule that 'the laws of a conquered country continue in force, until they are altered by the conqueror.' "
