1872. Proclamation No 14

Under this act, mine employers "had the right to search their servants and their property and living quarters for diamonds ... but this was never effectively applied" (Allen 1992: 120). See also the SEARCHING ORDINANCE of 1880 and the MINING REGULATIONS of 1883.
