1880. Searching Ordinance No 1

"After much agitation and argument about the economic importance of preventing the theft of diamonds and assertions that honest miners would have no reason to object to the inconvenience of strip searching, they were eventually given the legal right ... to establish a comprehensive system of searching, including strip searching, at every mine" (Allen 1992: 120).
