1899. Native Labour Locations Act No 30

This act "was for private industrial locations only" (Swanson 1977: 34). As a bill, it "proposed to exempt ... industrial workers from the penalty tax formerly imposed on 'lazy natives' to shunt labour towards the farmers. Workers would pay instead a ten shilling hut tax on location houses" (Swanson 1977: 32).
