1913. Admission of Persons to the Union Regulation Act No 22

Dugard (1978) refers to this interchangeably as the IMMIGRANTS REGULATION ACT (p 307) and the ADMISSION OF PERSONS TO THE UNION REGULATION ACT (p 72). .This act not only restricted the immigration into the Union, but also prohIbIted people from moving freely between the provinces inside the Union. Section 4 "empowered the Minister of the Interior to prohibit as immigrants 'any person or class of persons deemed by the Minister on economic grounds ... to be unsuited to the requirements of the Union or any particular Province thereof.' " (Dugard 1978: 307).

This act was replaced by the ADMISSION OF PERSONS TO THE REPUBLIC REGULATION ACT of 1972.
