1969. South Africa Amendment Act

The UNION OF SOUTH AFRICA ACT of 1909 had called for the future incorporation of Rhodesia (Zambia and Zimbabwe), Lesotho, Swaziland and Botswana. This was, however, subsequently recognized as impossible. Thus this amendment "was seen as being in recognition of the political fact that South Africa would never obtain its often-stated goal of incorporating the British protectorates into a greater South Africa" (Riley 1991: 107).
