Masondo, Andrew

Masondo was born in Sophiatown. He obtained a B.Sc at Fort Hare, Honours in Applied Mathematics at the University of the Witwatersrand, and U.Ed at Fort Hare in 1959.  In 1960 he became a lecturer at Fort Hare.

He joined the ANC in 1953 and the SACP in 1961.  In 1960 be became an organiser in the rural areas of the Eastern Cape. In 1962 he was recruited into MK.  In 1963 he was arrested for sabotage and spent 13 years on Robben Island. He was a member of the Communications Committee on the Island.

After his release he became a General in MK and spent time in Angola.
