Naidoo, Indres

Naidoo was born into a family which has been politically active for over 100 years, his forbears being colleagues of Gandhi.

He was elected to the executive of the Transvaal Indian Youth Congress in 1953, recruited into MK in 1961 and joined the SACP in 1961.

He was arrested in 1963 and was imprisoned for ten years on Robben Island. In 1976 he left SA and was sent to work in Maputo for the ANC.  He spent from 1988 to 1991 at the ANC office in the GDR, returning to SA in 1991.

He was an ANC member of Parliament from 1994 until 1999.
