Dutch Reformed Church (DRC)

A Calvinist church dating back to the early days of Dutch settlement. After dissent within the ranks several sister churches subsequently evolved. The DRC became the dominant religious grouping among South African Afrikaans-speakers, a traditionally religious-minded people. They developed what they saw as theological and biblical justification for separating black and white people and extended this conviction to embrace the policy of apartheid as God's will.
