Beyleveld, Piet

1916 -

Beyleveld was an Afrikaner trade unionist and founder member of the Springbok Legion. In 1952 he was National Organiser of the Labour Party. In 1953 he became the first President of the Congress of Democrats. He was also the first President of SACTU. He joined the SACP in 1956, was jailed in 1964 but turned state witness against Bram Fischer.
