Naidoo, Jayaseelan 'Jay'

1954 -

Naidoo was active as a student in SASO. He joined the trade union movement in 1979, eventually becoming General Secretary of COSATU. After the 1994 election Mandela appointed him as Minister at the Presidency, charged with implementing the Reconstruction and Development Programme (RDP). In 1996 he was made Minister of Posts, Telecommunications and Broadcasting.

He left active politics in 1999 and became the Chairman of the Development Bank of Southern Africa. He is also the Chairman of the Global Alliance to Improve Nutrition (GAIN), as well as Chairman of J&J Group. He has served in various capacities as a member of the Advisory Committee set up by UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan on ICT, and as a member of the ITU Advisory Committee on the World Telecommunications Forum. He chairs an advisory working group to the Minister of Provincial and Local Government, Mr Sydney Mufamadi. He also serves as a Trustee on the Lovelife Trust.
