Kabwe

By the mid-1980s, violence had reached unprecedented heights and international condemnation of the government's police-state tactics and gagging of the press was escalating. The UDF* was acting as a united front for the ANC and other powerful anti-apartheid organisations, but the ANC was as yet still banned. An ANC consultative conference was held outside South Africa's borders in Kabwe, Zambia, in 1985.
