Vlok, Adriaan

1937 -

Vlok joined the National Party in 1959. He was appointed private secretary to Pelser, the Minister of Justice, a post he held for four months before becoming assistant private secretary to John Vorster.

He was then elected MP for Verwoerdburg in 1974 and in 1984 was appointed Deputy Minister of Defence. In 1985 he took over as Deputy Minister of Law & Order. In 1986 he became Minister of Law & Order and was responsible for administering the controversial National Security Management (NSM) system. He was part of the government's team at the Groote Schuur talks in 1990 but in 1991 he was demoted to Minister of Correctional Services. He resigned from active party politics in 1994.
