Nyanda, Siphiwe

1950 -

Nyanda was born in Soweto. In 1975 he went to East Germany and the Soviet Union for military training. He became MK Transvaal chief-of-staff in charge of underground structures before returning to South Africa in the late 1980s with Mac Maharaj for Operation Vula.

He became Chief of the South African National Defence Force after the retirement of General Georg Meiring in 1998. Nyanda retired from the Defence Force in 2005.
